Learn to Create Yarn with a Drop Spindle

Drop spindles are portable and a fun way to spin your own yarn.  They fit in a purse or bag and will travel with you.  Spinning your own yarn gives a wonderful sense of pleasure and peace.  Using a basic park and draft process, students will learn to create single ply yarn on a drop spindle in the first 1.5 hours, in the second half of the class you will learn how to Andean ply your spun single and set the twist of your newly created yarn.

Learn to wet felt a hat with a resist, then block to create a hat as special as the creator.  Hats with brims, cloches with folds, witches style, anything goes.

Toe Up Baby Socks

Teaching skills of a toe up sock using Turkish cast on method as well as short row heel.  This is taught using a sock pattern for a size 12 month sock so that the heel can be done within the time constraints of the class.  The methods taught can then be transferred to any size of sock using the formula.

Hairpin Lace - It's Back

Come learn this vintage crochet technique made new!  Students will learn the basics of hairpin lace crochet using only a loom and the chain and single crochet stitch.  The flexibility of this technique makes it ideal for necklaces and scarves.  The strips can stand alone, be layered, or sewn together, then embellished!

Learn how to need felt a cute 2.5" tall Barn Owel using wool from an Ontario Fibre Farm.  Techniques you'll learn include creating the core shape, add a top colour of wool, make and attach wings and a tail, and the face detailing.  Cathy promises that this class will be a Hoot!

Do you want to learn a new fibre skill AND discover a way to decrease your stash of leftover yarn balls?  If you have ever used a corking or spool knitting tool, lucet braiding is even easier!  


This workshop will show you how to create a woolen notions bowl with a ball of yarn and a dual lucet (Ducette).  Beadaddict's unique "Braiding the Braid" technique in combination with the lucet square braid will prove to you that no sewing is required!

Fibre Preparation

Try your hand at a range of fibre preparation methods.  Learn which method works best for which type of fibre and yarn, and how to blend for colour and fibre enhancement.  Content covers combing, flick carding, hand carding and drum carding, and use of a blending board.  You will work with such fibres as wool, silk and mohair.

Come out and learn how to create your own macrame wall hanging! Macrame is a form of fibre art produced using knotting techiques.  In this workshop you'll learn about the materials commonly used in macrame, as well as several basic knotting techniques needed to make your very own wall hanging.  This workshop is perfect for all skill levels.  Attendees will be walked through a demonstration and offered one-on-one guidance.
